One of the things that Palin, et al seem to harp on is service, public service. Public services come in many forms, one of which is a community organizer, specifically for job training and college prep for underprivileged. This was after his graduation from Columbia and working at a public interest research group. He did many other great things in between, much of which was from the encouragement of others when they saw the great things he was capable of. From there he served as a civil rights and neighborhood economic development attorney. He gave up a lucrative career practicing law to go back to serving the public as a state senator and later as a US senator.
So with this type of background why is this not considered public service? Palin et al seem to think it is a requirement to serve in one of the armed forces for anybody to be legitimate. One thing I do know is that most people entering the armed forces these days is because it is out of necessity because they can’t afford college, or they don’t meet the minimum requirements to get in to college or both. There is also a certain mentality that goes along with voluntarily signing up to get your head blown off.
As one thing leads to another I will get to the term victory. Palin mentioned that Barack never mentioned this when speaking of the war in Iraq. My response is, “Who the hell would”? She needs to go look up the word victory in the dictionary. Maybe I will bookmark and highlight one for her and send it to her maybe even include the number of deaths, number of injured, divorced, committed suicide, missing body parts, burned beyond recognition and those mentally affected forever and then we’ll see if she agrees we have achieved victory in Iraq.
This military this and military that and POW this and POW that is getting old. I don’t even think they realize what hey are saying, like it’s great to be at war so we can serve our country. Ah no, it is better NOT to go to war so your son doesn’t get his legs blown off, or somebody else’s daughter doesn’t get her face burned off, or somebody else is forever emotionally scarred on the inside. War is the most horrible thing ever and they are acting like they are better because I served, my son served, I went to visit the soldiers in Kuwait. Bullshit! We’d be much better off if we never went over there to begin with, especially under false pretenses and oh and while we are over there, we’ll hit up Iraq too. WTF people, wake up!
A bunch of low life, uneducated rednecks is what they sound like. Hey Cletus, watch this. That’s probably what Cheney said before he shot his friend in the face with a shotgun.
You can server the public, fellow citizens, your neighbors and this country with serving in the military.
